Built From the Ground Up
Buca Build is a dedication from Director Alex Hourigan to his son, Arturo, and a chance to turn more than two decades of hard-earned construction experience into something of their own.
He is the main reason I’m having a go. Applying my hard-earned skills and experience to build something of my own, something of ours.
That idea is at the heart of Buca Build. But getting here has been more than 20 years in the making.
Alex began his career on the tools, completing his carpentry apprenticeship with Laing O’Rourke in 2010. During those early years, he worked alongside and learned from highly experienced and respected people in the industry, building the knowledge, work ethic and standards that would shape the rest of his career.
From early on, Alex knew he wanted to go further. The goal was to move into leadership, take on bigger challenges and, in his words, build towers around the country.
He worked his way into structural leadership roles, eventually becoming a Structures Foreman representing Tier 1 builders. Along the way, Alex helped deliver more than six high-rise towers and contributed to some of Australia’s largest and most complex construction projects.
At 27, that same ambition took him to Melbourne, where he stepped into a Site Manager role and went on to deliver UniLodge at 480 Elizabeth Street, which at the time was Australia’s tallest student accommodation building.
Three years later, Alex returned home to the Gold Coast with a wealth of experience and a clearer idea of what he wanted to do next.
Having spent years on the builder’s side, he had seen firsthand the challenges surrounding quality, accountability and finding reliable subcontractors who could consistently deliver to a high standard.
Rather than continuing to work around those challenges, Alex decided to build something that could help solve them.
In 2024, Buca Build was born.
Built on real site experience, strong industry relationships and an understanding of what builders need from the people they work with, Buca Build represents the next chapter of Alex’s career.
It’s an opportunity to do things the right way, work alongside good people, support quality subcontractors and help raise the standard of construction from the ground up.
Most importantly, it’s something Alex can continue building for the person who gave him the reason to take the chance in the first place.
Something of his own. Something of theirs.
More Than What You Wear
BucaBruz was born from the construction industry and the culture that comes with it.
Early starts, long days, hard work, good people and the kind of mateship you only get from working side by side. It’s a way of life that has helped build Australia, and one we reckon deserves to be represented beyond the job site.
Our merch is made for the people who live it. Quality, durable pieces designed to be worn on site, off site and everywhere in between. No fuss, no shortcuts, just good gear that represents where you come from and what you’re part of.
Because BucaBruz is about more than what you wear. It’s about the work, the people and the shared culture behind it.
Designed in Queensland, Australia.
Built for the people who build it.
